Is Bedezy registered for NDIS, Aged Care Package, CHSP, AT-HM?

There is no registration requirement for equipment manufacturers to participate in any current assistance program.

NDIS Registration is for providers offering specialist disability accommodation services, specialist behaviour support services, or supporting NDIS participants with NDIA-managed funding.

For aged care, CHSP and AT-HM, providers also need to be registered for these programs. Participants must be registered for their relevant assistance. A qualified health professional will need to prescribe Bedezy for you if you wish to have one, as part of your package.

Sadly, some assistive technology retailers would have you believe that you can only purchase from them for these programs. That is incorrect and misleading.

Can you ask for a Bedezy on NDIS? 

Yes, you can. Bedezy is an assistive product for household tasks. Specifically, Bedezy is an assistive product designed to "facilitate house cleaning, including tasks such as changing sheets, Gardening, or Laundry". 

Bedezy is classified as a Low Cost & Low Risk AT valued under $1500, available at select retailers, and directly. Bedezy is easy to set up with only two parts, the pump and bladder, to be placed between the mattress and bed base.

The product must represent good value for money: Yes, it does. Over the serviceable life of Bedezy, not only will there be a reduction in the hours spent on changing sheets, but also a reduction in the risk of injury to the person performing the task. 

Will the Bedezy mattress lifter make it easier to teach others how to change sheets? 

Yes, using Bedezy to lift the mattress takes the largest part of the physical effort out of this task. Even with limited movement and dexterity, this is still an achievable household task. 

Will Bedezy mattress lifter make changing sheets safer? 

The potential cost of a single work cover claim far outweighs the cost of placing Bedezy on a client's bed to reduce the risk of injury to careers and workers. 

Bedezy Suggested NDIS Coding 

The information below serves as a good starting point for those seeking an NDIS code to include alongside the purchase line for a Bedezy. This is based on the guidelines set out in the Pricing arrangements and Price Limits 2024-25 Rev 1.3 (OCT24) 

Good news, Bedezy is available to all programs. 

Soon, Support at Home will replace the Home Care Packages Program and the Short-Term Restorative Care Program. The Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) will transition to Support at Home no earlier than 1 July 2027 and continue until it is replaced by the new program.

Assistive Technology and Home Modifications (AT-HM) Scheme is a key component of the Support at Home program. It will provide eligible participants with upfront, separate funding to support them in accessing the products, equipment, and home modifications to meet their assessed needs and help them to live at home independently for longer. To facilitate this, the AT-HM List outlines the products, equipment and home modifications that Support at Home participants can get through the AT-HM Scheme. It was designed using the Australian-adopted Assistive Product Classification and terminology standard (AS/NZS ISO 9999:2023). It also draws from subject matter experts and international human rights instruments, such as the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability (2006).

The ATHM list groups items under five headings:

• managing body functions
• self-care
• mobility
• domestic life <- Bedezy mattress lifter falls in here. 
• communication and information management
• home modifications

The AT-HM list does not list specific products; however, the assistive technology for beds and bed equipment is listed under domestic life and would include items such as the Bedezy product you mentioned in your email.  An annual review of the AT-HM List will ensure it remains contemporary. This review will consider emerging technologies and align with any broader government care and support sector developments.
